If it takes more than one arrow to kill Smaug when the movie DOES come out, then clearly Chrysophylax won his case.
Also, before the live action movies... we Tolkien fans had to settle for this: The Hobbit (1977). While it (mostly) followed the plot (albeit, a super-condensed version), the bizarre character designs were rather off-putting. Putting aside the gargantuan noses, the
elves that looked like goblins stood out considerably, as did the goblins that looked like, um... this. Finally,
